About this experience

Known as "The Treasure of the Country," Kutná Hora is one of Bohemia's most important historical cities. This old mining town, founded in the 13th century, contributed its silver wealth to the Czech Crown.

SAMPLE ITINERARY The Kutná Hora tour will begin at the meeting point at 9:00 AM. The journey to Kutná Hora will take just over an hour.

In Kutná Hora's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will see the Plague Column, a sculpture commemorating the victims of the epidemics. We will then proceed to the Italian Courtyard, passing through the central square. Along the way, you will learn about medieval coins. Before reaching the Italian Courtyard, which was once Kutná Hora's Royal Castle and now houses the town hall, we will see a city gate and remnants of the city walls. From there, we will admire the Gothic Cathedral of St. Barbara in the distance, which we will enter later. After the Italian Courtyard, a castle within the city itself, we'll skirt the Church of St. James the Greater. Continuing on, we'll hear about the legend and curse of the Ruthard family. We'll pass by a second small castle, once a guardhouse at the entrance to the silver mines and now the Silver Museum. A short walk away, we'll reach a public exhibition of sculptural groups reminiscent of the Charles Bridge in Prague, located in front of the former Jesuit College of Kutná Hora, now home to the Central Bohemian Art Gallery.

At the end of the sculpture exhibition is the Gothic Cathedral of St. Barbara. Those interested can visit its interior and learn about its unique features. This guided tour of Kutná Hora will continue to a viewpoint, the old synagogue, and the Stone Fountain, a unique Gothic civic monument. The tour of Kutná Hora's historic center will conclude in front of the Stone House, a Gothic civic building that more closely resembles a church.

Next, we'll continue our tour in another district, Sedlec. Here, we'll visit the Ossuary in the center of a cemetery once considered "holy ground." The Sedlec Ossuary is a monument to the victims of epidemics who, due to the circumstances, didn't have the opportunity to receive last rites. While it may seem a bit macabre, it contains the classified remains of 40,000 people.

We'll be back in Prague around 3:00 PM. If you're going to be hungry, you can find all the recommended places HERE.
