About this experience

Terezín is today the Czech Republic's main memorial to remember the victims of Nazism: an essential guided tour to understand the ghetto, the concentration camp and the true story of the persecution during World War II, with transport and expert explanation from Prague.

Only in the recent past has Terezín once again become known as a tragic symbol for those who opposed, dissident, and defied the Nazi regime. The mission of the Terezín Memorial—the only institution of its kind in the Czech Republic—is to commemorate the victims of Nazi political and racial persecution during the occupation of Czech lands in World War II.

The memorial promotes the museum, research and educational activities, and visits to memorial sites related to the suffering and death of the thousands of war victims.

Although the fortress was founded as a very modern structure at the end of the 18th century, its function has changed over the years.

*SAMPLE PROGRAM*

The Terezín tour will begin at the meeting point at 9:00 a.m. The journey to the main fortress will take approximately one hour. To better understand Terezín, historical and technical details will be shared during the journey, which will then be related to the events that took place there.

Leaving Prague, we'll pass by the monument to the participants in Operation Anthropoid. We'll enjoy a panoramic view of the main fortress, which is practically a city in itself. The entire city was once the Jewish Ghetto. In the cemetery complex, you'll hear about the statistics, motives, and methods used. We'll visit a museum to learn about names, events, and practices. Then we'll continue to the National Cemetery while the guide explains the differences between the Ghetto and the Camp. Next, we'll visit the concentration camp, following the same route the prisoners took, starting in the administrative courtyard.

After the "Arbeit macht frei" (Work sets you free) sign, we'll reach the prisoners' area. We'll pass through part of the fortress's casemates and reach the shooting range before exiting into a section of the residential area.

We'll be back in Prague around 3:00 PM. If you're going to be hungry, you can find all the recommended places HERE.

If you'd like to delve deeper into the topic, the Museum of Communism is located directly at the meeting point, and you'll receive a 5% discount with your TORRESDEPRAGA CARD (our discount card). You can find the rest of our offers in the "Don't Miss Out" section.
